Ms Marianne Nilsson the SEM “Music-missionary” will present a seminar with the title Hymn Books – a key to Christian faith. She will discuss how the SEM translated and printed 5 hymn books in 5 different languages in 20 years. Hymn Books – a key to Christian faith
Within approximately 20 years the SEM-missionaries printed hymnbooks in 5 different
languages. It looks like a planned strategy, but was it really?
Amharic: Yagubae Mazmurat 1881, 2 nd ed. 1887
Oromo: Faarsaa fi Weeduu 1886
Tigrinya: Mazmur Selam 1900
Tigre: Derus Tseyon 1902
Kunama: Anana Kitaba 1903

Who translated the hymns? Why?
What type of hymns were selected for translation?
What was important, text or music?
Why printing hymnbooks?
How were the translated hymns received?
